The hypnoband is different from regular hypnosis because it goes beyond the emotional realm. The mindset it involves focuses the client on an imaginary surgical procedure, conducted to narrow the digestive path and inhibit too much eating.
I do hypnoband work over the course of four sessions. The first one is more like traditional hypnosis, as it’s primarily emotional, and works to promote a state of relaxation. In this session, we’re preparing the imagination for the “surgery” to follow in the future.
In the second session, we go into more tangible preparation. When the client is in a hypnotic trance, I walk them through a pre-surgery visit to the hospital. They meet the staff; they meet the doctors. I prepare them for the pre-surgery fast and the post-surgery recovery (not operating heavy machinery or lifting anything heavy, etc.).
Now mind you, some people dislike this whole concept, because they don’t associate positively with surgery. Even though they know it’s not real surgery, the whole notion of it feels uncomfortable to them. Whatever works for each client is fine, and indeed, regular hypnosis may be more advisable for one client than it is for another. Those who are open to the idea have the assurance that I have spoken with and observed actual, physical banding procedures, and I therefore have real details to incorporate into my hypnosis sessions.
Using the hypnoband technique, I regularly see clients losing between three and five pounds per week.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…In the third session, the client undergoes the surgery. Strangely, although hypnoband clients aren’t generally expected to lose weight before the surgery itself, a great many of my clients have already started to shed pounds before the surgery itself even occurs. And if they haven’t, then the surgery itself, which acquaints their imaginations with new and powerful changes to their bodies’ digestive systems, is devised to get them on the right path.
After the surgery, we do a fourth session to help them process the change that has occurred. This is a deepening, and perhaps a forum for adjustments. For example, if the new band seems too tight, we loosen it. If, on the other hand, the band is too loose, then we tighten it.
Weight loss will continue well after the surgery itself, until the wisdom of the body steps forward, and says that a state of good health has at last been achieved.
